Antonio Vivaldi - Concerto No. 3 in F major, Op. 8, RV 293, "Autumn" (L'autunno)

"Autumn" painting by Nicolas Poussin.  I. Allegro Celebrates the peasant, with songs and dances,  The pleasure of a bountiful harvest.  And fired up by Bacchus' liquor many end their revelry in sleep.  II. Adagio molto Everyone is made to forget their cares and to sing and dance  By the air which is tempered with pleasure  And (by) the season that invites so many, many  Out of their sweetest slumber to fine enjoyment   III. Allegro The hunters emerge at the new dawn,  And with horns and dogs and guns depart upon their hunting  The beast flees and they follow its trail Terrified and tired of the great noise  Of guns and dogs, the beast, wounded, threatens  Languidly to flee, but harried, dies. The Four Seasons is a group of four violin concerti by Antonio Vivaldi , each of which gives musical expression to a season of the year. "Autumn" is the third concerto in F major. In this work are described the villagers who celebrate...

Joseph Haydn - a self-made genius

Despite all the desolation and poverty that marked his childhood, Haydn struggled and became the greatest and most productive composer of his generation. Franz Joseph Haydn or "Little Joseph", as he was known, was born on March 31, 1732 in the small Austrian village of Rohrau, near the border with Hungary.  The future of little Josepf appeared uncertain. His father, Mathias, a poor wheelwright unable to afford to educate his son, watched with sadness his obvious musical talent go to waste. Fortunately, a relative of theirs, Johann Matthias Frankh, the schoolmaster and choirmaster in Hainburg, offered to take over little Joseph, and in 1738 the six-year-old boy abandoned his family for good. He was taught the principles of music and learned to sing in the choir.  This good fortune, of course, he paid for with the misery of his childhood which was marked with "more beating than eating", as he later remembered. A happy getaway Haydn's misery came to an end when in ...

Johannes Brahms - Hungarian Dance No. 3 in F Major - Allegretto

The Dance No. 3 in F Major - Allegretto  of Johannes Brahms has a light and elegant main theme, which is presented by the oboes. It is followed by a brief darker section for the remaining wind instruments. On the contrary, the middle section is dynamic and glamorous played by the whole orchestra and the cymbals. The performance of this dance on the piano also highlights Johannes Brahms's love of Hungarian music and the elegant character of this composition:

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550

The shocking combination of musical insight and Mozart's delicately processed art widened the boundaries of all the musical forms he dealt with. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart possessed an extraordinary ability to distance himself from the outside world in the moments of his creative activity. This is evidenced by the tremendous speed with which he composed his last three symphonies and by the often optimistic nature of these great works. It was during the composition of these symphonies, in the summer of 1788, that Mozart was in great despair - pressured by his deteriorating economic situation, living constantly in fear of the future. However, the music of Symphony No. 40 in G minor is joyful and serene - the work of a composer who resolutely refused to allow his problems to appear in his art. Μovements : Ι. Molto allegro In the first part, the low, turbulent string accompaniment defines the mood of Molto Allegro . Initially, the violins lead, pushing the music into the lyrical second t...

Robert Schumann - Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54

Schumann's wife, Clara, was an accomplished musician and outstanding pianist. She was the first to perform Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor. The first part of this famous romantic concerto, one of Schumann's most important works, was written in 1841 as a "Phantasie" for piano and orchestra with only one part. Robert Schumann had a hard time finding a publisher and gave it up. In 1845 he revised it, after his wife Clara urging him to expand it into a full piano concerto, by adding two parts and shaped the concerto as we know it today.  Clara, which was an accomplished pianist, was the first to present the work, at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig on 13 August 1841 with only the first movement. The complete three-movement version was premiered in Dresden on 4 December 1845, again with Clara Schumann, and the dedicatee Ferdinand Hiller as the conductor. Less than a month later, on 1 January 1846, the concerto was performed in Leipzig, conducted by Felix Mendelssohn ....
